Rev. Jones was born and reared at Calvary Baptist Church. He was licensed under the direction of Rev. Dr. Manuel L. Scott Sr. in 1981 and ordained under the direction of Rev. John Bowie. Rev. Jones has the distinction of being the first "son" of Calvary to be called as Senior Pastor, a distinction he holds with humility. His late maternal grandmother Connie Haywood was a musician who played for the Mission Chorus in the late 1950s to the early 1960s.
